ParticipantThere’s a guy that posts here quite a bit with a ham radio license. You’ll recognize him because he uses his call letters as his user name. I’m also a ham radio operator but haven’t been active for several years. Not even sure if my license has expired – WB6MLF.

ParticipantRecently got my ticket and was wondering if there are any HAM’s in the area. I know there is a group in Angel’s camp, but wondering about up here.

ParticipantDid you find a source for insurance? I have had Farmers for 25 years but they seem to be increasing the cost every year and trying to get me to change.
I’ve looked around a bit and followed several suggestions, but I haven’t found a source.

ParticipantThank you everyone. We took 12 from Suisun all the way until it becomes 49 and left onto 4 in Angels Camp. It was about 3 hours. There was a bridge that work was being done after the Sacramento river where it was one way and signaled. This no doubt added at least 30 minutes. Taking 12 and 49 is definitely scenic and seems to have less stops along the way.

ParticipantCongrats to Joe on the Stafford Lake Ride! Kevin & I are on the same LLS-TNT team and I can tell you first hand, this ride was very difficult at best with drizzle, high winds and very steep hills. Not only does Joe commute to the Bay Area to train, he most definitely trains extremely hard and gave this ride his all (and then some). Thank you Joe for all of your efforts to fight cancer and also providing this great neighborhood website.
Please show your support!

ParticipantI’ve been very pleased with the Arnold Ace (Ebbetts Pass hardware) sharpening. They even did the first chain while I waited. Good service!

KeymasterI just posted a new update on my training for the America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride. If you want to see a great route for a bike ride, motorcycle ride, or weekend drive, have a look under the Bike Stuff tab.

ParticipantIs there anyone in the Arnold area that sharpens chainsaw chains back to spec. Without having to drive to Sonora or San Andreas.

ParticipantYes, we had problems a few years ago when we first bought our property in Camp Connell. Allstate (our carrier at the time) has not written new home policies for years, State Farm would not cover since we’re in a “fire” area. Neither would AAA. However, Liberty Mutual would cover us. Lucky them since we moved ALL our insurance policies to them. Been happy since (well, except for cost….)

ParticipantOur place in BTV is insured through Foremost Insurance- they are part of the Farmers Group and are A rated. We use Mark Twain Insurance Agency in Angels Camp. Our carrier for our primary residence is Safeco, and they wouldn’t do it- and our agent there had no other sources.

ParticipantWe come up from El Cerrito and take all of these routes- mainly for variety more than travel time. With light traffic, they all take about the same time, give or take 15 minutes.
The Lodi route is best during cherry season (soon!) and for stops at Lockeford meats, the Country Cafe, and the great local wine section in the supermarket.
If we go through Tracy/Manteca, we’ve stocked up on fruit and veggies at Denise’s produce past Jack Tone Road (at Escalon, turn L on Escalon-Bellota Rd to Farmington. On the way back, often take Milton Rd off of 4 for a change of scenery.)
And if we go through Stockton, we stop at farm stands in Brentwood or a taqueria in Stockton.
Light traffic, all take about 3 hrs non stop. But we seldom go non stop. I always check 511 traffic or google maps before we go- but over the winter I still hit road closures on Hwy 12, the 99/4 interchange, and of course the Altamont can always be backed up.
