ParticipantI wish another reputable insurance company would write new policies up here. We have six houses and two cars insured with State Farm. They will renew policies but won’t write new ones. I would love to tell State Farm to take their policies and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine!

ParticipantWe bought in Arnold in the fall and Geico (via Travelers) insured us. We sold our Dorrington cabin, and after having State Farm for years, they were not writing new policies. Good Luck.

ParticipantI have several cameras that I have picked up over the years. I have a ACTI, Arecont, some Chinese cam that I bought cause it was cheap and several Logitech alerts. I really like the logitech’s but they are not making them anymore and the Ebay prices are sky high!
For software I use Blue Iris running on a old Dell server. It is fantastic and there is so much you can tweak.
My buddy got the kit from Costco and it is a nice. Make sure you get HD and don’t get the cheapest cameras.
Here is a link.

KeymasterWe have heard from someone we trust that the bark beetle treatment is 1) only a deterrent and 2) is only good for about 30 days and 3) is not effective for an tree that is already infested. Apparently there is some sort of treatment, involving injection of insecticide into the tree that might be effective but it requires significant irrigation of the tree which is illegal under the current drought conditions.
Best to call a real pro and get the straight skinny and a guarantee.cmon4day
ParticipantHere is an informative article on the bark beetle. Scroll down and there is a section on chemical treatments. What’s of particular interest is the deep irrigation technique to keep trees healthy during drought.

ParticipantWe have received a couple of advertisements from local pest control companies about treating trees for bark beetles. I know bark beetles are becoming a serious problem and we have lost some very nice trees to them. Has anyone had experience with the treatment? Specifically, how is it applied, has it worked, what are the risks to wildlife (woodpeckers/other birds that may eat bark beetles, beneficial insects, or other creatures that live in the trees) and/or humans, types of trees that should be treated (pine, fir, incense cedar, etc.), how long will it last, and anything else you can provide. Thanks.

ParticipantStarting from the Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda area we take 680 south to 580 east over the Altamont pass (non commute times only, otherwise you will seriously regret it) to 205 to 5 north, 120 east, left on Jack Tone road, and Hwy 4 east. Takes us about 2:45 on average.

ParticipantConsistently 2.5 hrs door-to-door. From Lafayette, we drive via hwy 242–>hwy 4 east through Antioch–> take the Antioch bypass to –> (l) Walnut Lane (r) hwy 4–> drive past Discovery Bay over the bumpy Delta–> (l) on Fresno Ave–> (r) onto the Stockton Bypass–> Hwy 99 south –>onto Hwy 4 East.

ParticipantI come from Pleasant Hill and take hwy 4 to 160, then hwy 12 to I5, turn right on Peltier Rd. This bypasses Lodi, Lockford, and Clements. Then hwys 88, 49 and 4. From PH to Big Trees takes about 2 3/4 hours.

ParticipantHi, We are in the Santa Rosa area. We take 12 to Lodi, stay on Kettleman (this avoids the downtown area) turn left onto 88. 88 will turn into 12, stay on 12 until San Andreas, (which is 49), until Angels Camp, turn left onto 4.
We have tried the Stockton route, depending on traffic, it can take forever. Plus it is a very crooked road.
I am anxious to see what others say.tatonka
ParticipantI have Allstate for both my homes. Four years ago when we had bad storms, I had a big tree come down in my garage. Their process was very easy and I had a check to make things good in about 10 days. No questions asked

ParticipantHello, we met some really nice folks who said the fastest way up from north east Bay Area are highways 12 to 49 back to 4. We have tried this route before and it wasn’t faster for us. Any one have any feedback?

ParticipantI have installed a few different systems and my favorite is the Swann cameras and DVR systems. They are easy to setup and have great apps and software.
