ParticipantYes, as you leave Arnold heading down the hill, after you pass the CalFire Station at the top of the hill, it’s about a quarter mile further down on the right hand side, next to High Country Stove and Spa.

ParticipantIs there a laundromat in Arnold? If so, where is it? If not, where is the nearest one?
Thanks!mtndad

Dorrington, CA…Fire Fighters are working a small fire in the Dorrington area. It was a full wildland response but quick work by arriving units kept it to a small spot fire. Air units have been released and are heading back to the Air Attack base in Columbiachipmunk

ParticipantWe have been thinking of getting a game cam/critter cam and wanted some feedback on which brands seem to be better than others?
We are looking at one by Stealth Cam.
Thanks for the help.

ParticipantHello,
If you enjoy backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, and snowboarding and want to enjoy your human powered sport in designated areas without the sounds and smells of OSV’s and are frustrated by the illegal tresspassing by OSV’s in wilderness areas then now is the time to voice your concern. You can attend one of the above-mentioned meetings or email the Forest Service by submitting your comments to the scoping notice on Over-Snow Vehicle Use Designation.
Deadline is August 10th.https://cara.ecosystem-management.org/Public//CommentInput?Project=46311

ParticipantHello,
If you like to snowmobile, you might want to attend one of these upcoming meetings to provide your input to the Forest Service. Even if you do not snowmobile, you may enjoy one of the benefits that snowmobiling provides. Did you know that it is the snowmobile license fees that pay for the grooming at the snowpark at Lake Alpine? Snowmobiling also brings valuable tourist dollars to the area in the winter. Also, for years the Bear Valley Snowmobile Club held fun raisers for our local Search and Rescue. If you are able, please come out and support the snowmobile community at one of these meetings.
Below is a notification I recieved from the Forest Service…

ParticipantI was there on Monday July 6. NO food. They ran out on Sunday at some point and the suppliers were not scheduled for a couple more days. Glad they are doing well but we couldn’t try the food! Backyard is very nice.
Too bad they could not have opened earlier so they would have some idea of the turnout and could have made more profit on the long weekend. I suppose they are just happy to be finished with the county and the hoops they had to jump through.allen
ParticipantWe had one come by early this morning (about 1:31 am). Probably the same bear.
It’s dark out so watch the lower right. The dogs were raising heck and my wife turned on the outdoor light. He or she looks about the same size.
You can see it better full screen. Click on full screen once it starts (<–>) – double arrow.

ParticipantCaptured this bear picture from our cabin cam in the Pawnee Drive area. This guy was wandering through the neighborhood at around 6:30am on June 15th. Also heard from neighbors that at least one car was broken into by a bear in the last week or so. Haven’t heard of that happening much in Big Trees….I thought that was mainly a Tahoe problem. Our bears must be getting hungry.
Just a reminder to make sure you don’t leave food or trash out that attracts the wildlife.

ParticipantThere are also a set of trails from Easy Street to Sierra Parkway – the main trail is pretty flat and easy, but there are lots of older side trails that are “exciting”. One of the trails goes almost to the river another leads out to Big Trees State Park.
The other trail is the old road off Boards Crossing down to the footbridge across the river. It is steep and pretty rough – not even sure I would want to do it in a 4×4.

ParticipantThanks for the links and detailed information. We biked a bit of the fire road and enjoyed it. We will give the South Grove Loop a try next time we are up.
