KeymasterJust curious…
Any other amateur musicians out there? I took up the fiddle 3 yrs ago and have since added the Uke, Recorder, mandolin, and viola. Dana has started working on the uke and recorder. We’re not hot-shots but we have fun and don’t worry much about mistakes (and plenty of them).bigtreestechman
KeymasterNot exactly where they picked me up but I think it was these same dogs that followed me home from a bike ride today. I didn’t even know they were there until I stopped at my back door and they just kept on going out into the back yard.
They looked healthy, happy, not stressed, and confident. They didn’t make a sound, didn’t pay a bit of attention to me, and just went on to smell the smells that my two dogs have left in the yard. By the time I went in and put my bike away there was no sign of them.
I’m at the corner of Kenshaw and Wikami.
They were beautiful dogs… I suspect that if the owner doesn’t start keeping better track of them, they’ll be gone to someone who cares more for them.CCTommy
ParticipantA homeowners association membership card will also do.

ParticipantHi folks
Just a heads up. There were two super-cute medium sized brindle colored dogs with collars and tags roaming on the north side of Hwy 4 and Ottawa today around 1:00 PM. At first I thought they were coyotes, but they were someone’s puppies. I pulled over and called to them, but they bolted back over the Highway and up Ottawa. Hope they made it home safely.

KeymasterFYI, I just posted an update regarding my preparation for the America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride under Bike Stuff.

ParticipantHey all
Finally up and clearing out some things that my guys have definitely outgrown. Have a VCR and videotapes (kids and adults), twin mattress and boxspring (no frame), and a variety of board games and puzzles for younger folks. If you’re interested, send me a note before this coming Wednesday. Will take all down to donate after that…

ParticipantI would love to take some if you still have some left – can you let me know your address and will you be around next few days or should I just help myself?

ParticipantWe stopped there on Friday (Feb 13th) on our way out and they were stopping people at the gate and checking. After some discussion with the checker, one person was turned away without being able to offload his garbage. He was not a happy camper!
A copy (2013 version even) of the tax bill was sufficient to get in

ParticipantI’ve never been checked but I do carry a picture of my property tax bill on my phone, just in case.

ParticipantRead with interest the piece on Vulkano. How is it different that hooking up a slingbox to you cable box at home and using sling player on your portable device? It’s even an app available on the Roku.

ParticipantTo gagacabin: at our Arnold cabin, we have Comcast internet only ($45/mo). We can check email, surf the web. But we can also run our Roku and watch some on demand type shows and movies. You might check out Sling TV which just started this week. For $20/mo you get a small package of live cable tv channels (espn, cnn, hgtv) to name a few. No contract…just need to buy a Roku or similar hardware. I hear Amazon is offering some deals on their hardware in conjunction with Sling. Worth a look. We have it here at our Bay Area home.

Keymasterwell… a couple things to consider…
as far as I know:
1) There is no ATT cellular reception in BTV (or anywhere above Murphys).
2) There is no ATT DSL in BTV (or anywhere above Arnold).
3) There is no HDTV reception in BTV (or anywhere nearby as far as I know). In BTV, to the best of my knowledge, if you disconnect Comcast Internet and Cable, your only options will be DVDs and dialup internet unless you want to spend the $$$ on satellite internet.
Of course, things do change and maybe ATT has started to care just a little bit more about potential rural clients.gagacabin
ParticipantThanks for the info. Went to the site, and I am a bit confused. We currently have A T & T and internet at home, at the cabin we have Comcast and internet. Would we be able to disconnect the Comcast TV, leaving only the internet service?
Are you only able to watch things that are being recorded at your home, or say can you watch live news coverage?
This sounds almost to good to be true!!

ParticipantIf you would like to get TV in Big Trees (for free) and you have a second home that gets TV (cable/satellite) and you want to get those same channels in big trees – you can get a product called Vulkano one foreach house – and you basically are watching your TV signal from home gets that gets pushed to your second home in Big Trees – each receiver is ~100 bucks – http://myvulkano.com/products.html

ParticipantI was here when they came by a couple of years ago. I had recently dug out a ditch in front because I needed the dirt in the back where I built a small retaining wall. We were leaving just before they got to our place but I assumed they would go ahead and remove more dirt like they were doing on the rest of the lots. I guess they thought I had mine like I wanted it and they didn’t remove any more dirt, nor did they flush out our culvert. I guess I should have called the county back then.
