Spent a few hours the night of the 3rd when they opened. Place looked great, watched a beautiful sunset over the meadow. So glad they are back. The parking lot was heavy all weekend.

We stopped by this evening. It was like old times. It looks pretty much the same, has the same friendly spirit of the old days, and was plenty busy.
They’re opening mid-day-ish most days. The grill is open until customers run out or 9PM-ish and the bar is open until customers run out or Midnight-ish or 2am-ish if the house is still packed.
It’s a full bar but I’m not sure I’d be bold enough to order some fancy-smanchy drink. They could probably mix it but you might find yourself sitting lonely 😉 That’s the way it is up here.
The menu consists of burgers, dogs, fries, onion rings and the like. Prices aren’t McDonald’s but very reasonable for this neck of the woods IMHO!
We’re going to go back to becoming regulars starting now.

BTW, we’re going to keep going to Camp Connell as well. Live Music in the back yard and great company inside!

The fire road behind the rec center is a nice ride with some small hills. It goes up to Meko near the Cal Trans facility.
The trail that takes off from the end of Cheyenne goes into the park, passes 3 eco camp sites, and comes out on the road to the South Grove, near the overlook. There are some side trails you can take also. Just keep in mind that in the park you are only allowed to ride on dirt or paved roads. No riding on the hiking trails is allowed.
If you go into the park and drive down past the South Grove to the end of the road, there are some great rides across the bridge over Beaver Creek.

Can anyone recommend any mountain biking trails in the immediate Big Trees/Dorrington area? I saw some mountain bikers on Boards Crossing yesterday and asked them where they were headed. They said they were going to check out the fire road into Calaveras Big Trees State Park off of Cheyenne and possibly the fire road off Boards Crossing behind the Rec Center. Does anyone have any feedback on these trails or others nearby? Thanks.

I think it fundamentally absurd that fireworks of ANY kind would be tolerated ANYWHERE in the county of Calaveras given the drought, the fire danger level and just common sense. I wrote the Board members an email yesterday wondering about this and, of course, no response from our overworked politicians. Alas…

Might not be in County codes since its a State code.

California law (Health & Safety Code Sections 19210-19217) requires:
    • Any new or replacement water heater sold in California on or after July 1, 1991 be braced,
anchored or strapped when installed to resist falling or horizontal displacement due to
    earthquake forces.
    • The seller of any real property containing a water heater to certify in writing to the purchaser
that water heater bracing requirements have been met.

My husband spoke to one of the owners. If all the county inspections pass today then the Lube Room will open at 12:00pm tomorrow, July 3rd. Lets hope the inspections pass!

Most of the propane water heaters are “direct vent” water heaters up here. Direct vent means the cool air coming in and the exhaust going out are through a side wall, and therefore pretty much mounted to the wall with the direct vent. Anyone know if seismic straps are required on Direct Vent water heaters? I couldn’t find any info on the county website and I checked three other cabins up here and none of the water heaters have seismic straps on them (direct vent water heaters).

I agree, uttb. If you see or hear fireworks, call 911. I believe that even possession of fireworks in the Ebbetts Pass Fire District is illegal.

A not so friendly suggestion. Call 911 immediately if you see anyone using them.
