ParticipantHave been following these forums for many years but don’t remember hearing discussion about this problem.
Our septic alarm went off, turns out it’s draining much slower than it should. Tanks, pump, sensor are working, but just not draining well. Called out septic guy, he found some standing water in the leach field pipes (those vertical ones sticking out of the ground), which he surmised was due to clogs in the leach field pipes underground. So, he dug up some sections of the upper and lower leach fields and found a lot of roots clogging the holes, some areas worse than others.
He also said that we can’t replace just PART of the leach field pipes, we have to replace the whole thing (in order to be up to code), AND, we have to get an engineer to re-draw up plans. He said that in the past, they were able to replace bad sections, but because of past problems, the county is requiring contractors to replace the whole leach field system, correctly, to code.
Should I get a second opinion? Has anyone gone through this before? Unofficial estimate was in the 10K range for engineering and construction. Advice/input would be appreciated!

KeymasterSorry for the delayed response… Awesome, Marsha! I have another fiddle friend down in Murphys also. Things are a bit frazzled at the moment but when it calms down some (April? May?) I’ll try to wrangle up a get together and you all can have some laughs at my feeble attempts at music (BTW, I enjoy laughs at my feeble attemts 🙂 )
Pray for a Snow Filled March!

KeymasterIt is trying desperately to snow heavily in Dorrington right now. It’s not succeeding, but it’s coming close. It’ll be interesting to see what the night brings us.

Keymastersaw one of them today down near Dorrington Realty. I’m sure the other was near by and the one I saw looked quite healthy and happy. I suspect someone’s just letting them roam. If they keep roaming I just may adopt them… very nice mannered dogs though they wouldn’t give me the time of day when they followed me home on my bicycle the other day.

ParticipantI saw two dogs with collars two days ago on the drop cam at the cabin.(3000 block of Shoshone) They hung around for a few minutes then were on their way. They looked healthy to me too.
Hope they find their home soon.-

ParticipantOur roaming pair appear to still be roaming. Terri Rogers of Mountain Resort Realty seems to have been visited by these same guys as well. Is there a place to check for missing dogs in the county? They sure seem to be covering some territory. From her blog:
“Roxy had two male wonder dogs visit her at the house the other day – she was pretty excited to have some friends around. I call them wonder dogs because I couldn’t figure out their breed or where they came from They joined us at the office for some playtime until a passer-by with his dogs drew them away for a walk – haven’t seen them since.”

KeymasterI want to explain part of why I am motivated to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society…
Simply put, I want the story below replaced with the following sentence:
“My doctor took a blood sample, found Lymphoma sensitivity, gave me a shot, and now I don’t have to worry about it”
However, here is today’s reality.
Several months ago a neighbor and good friend had gone through just about every test they could throw at her but it was only by chance, during an unrelated surgery, that they stumbled across what turned out to be one of the most aggressive types of Lymphoma that exists. The good news was that although it was one of the most aggressive types of Lymphoma, it was also one of the most treatable due to all the research that LLS had, in part, funded.
After months of Chemo Therapy that involved hair loss, weight loss, appetite loss, and just feeling like crap a lot, she was down to her last Chemo treatment when, due in part to a weakened immune system, she came down with an infection so severe that it almost killed her within hours.
Now that she has recovered from the infection, she still has weeks of radiation therapy ahead of her.
This diagnosis and treatment scenario plays out every day for thousands of people, and while the diagnosis and treatment has become orders of magnitude better over the last ten years, it is still a brutal process.
With the advent of Genome sequencing, and ever increasing capabilities and reduction in cost, researchers may be on the cusp of an entirely new, more individually focused, less brutal, diagnosis and treatment paradigm. Research like this, whether it be for Blood Cancers or others, has far reaching implications for all kinds of related diseases. So, that’s why I’m doing what I’m doing.
If you’d like to help HERE is where to do it.
all the best,

ParticipantNice job on your ride up Highway 4. Today I rode up to Ganns and back. Sure a lot different on a bike. You don’t realize how much you climb when you’re in a car.

KeymasterThere’s another update on the Bike Stuff page.

KeymasterSo, for what it’s worth… I have seen bare ground in February and 2 feet of snow left on the ground, the same year in June… Pray for our own style of March Madness!!!
