ParticipantCaution, Be aware the woodpeckers are a protected species.
“Pileated woodpeckers have a large population size and, despite being non-migratory, are protected under the U.S. Migratory Bird Act.”

KeymasterIt’s my understanding that the woodpeckers dig in where they hear the sound of insects under the bark. So, in all likelihood, you have some trees that are bugged, and not by the NSA 😉
For whatever it’s worth, I recently saw an ad by Clark Pest Control that appeared to be touting a new tree treatment. They might be worth calling.

KeymasterThat’s opportunity knocking and it’s almost gone. By that I mean the opportunity to double the difference you can make by donating to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through my fundraising page. Until I reach my fundraising goal of $2500 I am still matching every donation made, dollar for dollar.
It may seem crazy, but there are worse things I could be doing with my money and there are worse things you could be doing with yours 🙂
In case you missed it, here’s the LINK.

Participantskipamy, I can tell you that in order to replace the leach line takes permits. However if your plumber makes an error and breaks those lines by mistake he must fix whatever he breaks. in repairing these broken leach lines he will not need permits and such.

Keymastercmon4day, it was indeed exhilarating… particularly when the bike started to go into an oscillatory wobble. Not sure why but it seems to do that from time to time when I reach those speeds.
One person I know hit almost 50mph going down the same hill.cmon4day
ParticipantNice ride! Nice top speed as well. You were flying at 35 mph.

ParticipantMost of the local contractors up here would likely have some suggestions on who else to call. Allen Shaw comes to mind. I don’t think he does any septic work himself, but he might know who to call. I don’t have his number handy but you should be able to google him and find it.
Where are the tree roots coming from? Do you have trees I the area where the leach lines are?

KeymasterFYI, there’s another update under Bike Stuff!

ParticipantThe problem is with tree roots clogging the leach field pipe holes. They said the drought has made it worse, with roots seeking out moisture. Do any of you use any kind of regular treatment in the pipes to kill roots?
I just called El Dorado Septic and they said they refer this type of work to the guy I’m working with. I guess that’s good news.
Any other recommendations?

ParticipantWe discovered a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers in our tree when we arrived. The neighbors had several trees removed because of Bark Beetle infestation.
The woodpeckers have stripped the bark of one tree on our property and one on the neighbors. Are they feeding on Bark Beetles that escaped from the felled trees? Will the loss of bark open the trees to any problems?

ParticipantI agree with the recommendation for El Dorado Septic. They pumped my tank last year (after 25 years), and they did an excellent job. The guy said my tank was in excellent condition. Cost was $400.
I’ve never had a problem with my septic system, but I don’t have a garbage disposal, clothes washer or a dishwasher.

ParticipantThanks, I will give them a call. If anyone else has a recommendation, please let me know.
Joe: I’ve noticed this before. Some posts don’t sort newest->oldest. This one shows oldest->newest? Just wondering why it’s not consistent.

ParticipantYou might call El Dorado Septic in Sonora for a 2nd opinion they are good..

ParticipantWow, that sucks! I would definitely get a second opinion and maybe a third or fourth opinion. In the past older skeptics could be repaired without bringing the septic up to a newer code and without being re-engineered. No telling these days.
