As everyone else said, “local hearsay” is the sale was in escrow and was was supposed to close in September of 2014. We’re full time and no more gossip since last October (2014).

    New email:

New protest forms now available for 2015
CalFire recently announced they will send a new round of fire tax bills, with counties beginning with the letter “A” receiving bills first.

It is important you file a protest every time you pay the fire tax so that you maximize your chances of receiving a refund if the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association’s class action lawsuit currently underway is successful.

Go to http://firetaxprotest.org/?page_id=13 to view filing instructions and download a copy of the form.

Although the lawsuit is moving forward slowly – partly as a result of its size and complexity and partly as a result of deliberate stalling by the state’s attorneys – another hearing has been scheduled and the public is invited to attend.

This hearing is on our “Motion to Certify Class,” which establishes your right to be represented in the case.

If you are interested in attending the hearing, mark your calendar with the following information:

Hearing: Motion to Certify Class (HJTA v. CalFire)
    Date: June 12
    Time: 11:00 am
Location: Sacramento Superior Court, Dept. 24
    720 9th St, Sacramento, CA 95814

We just received ours as well and while I don’t question the need for additional fire protection resources, in fact I support the local fire station every year, but I do despise the way the state passes along the cost.

The fiberglass roll insulation in the subarea of our cabin needs to be replaced/upgraded.
Any ideas on contractors for this project?
    Thanks,

Your opportunity to spend my money toward a good cause is almost at an end. I want you to understand that research into cures for cancer, no matter what kind, is cross pollenizing. This fundraiser is for Blood Cancer research but any research into things like immunotherapy, genome sequencing, etc, is relevant to not only all cancers but to many other forms of disease as well.
So, go ahead, donate and up until the $2500 goal is reached, I’ll personally match it.

I cannot seem to see the private reply above. I logged in and tried to click several links, but it does not show me the reply. What am I doing wrong?

I put a note on the petitions letting them know what was actually on the bill, for period 07/01/14 – 06/30/15. I guess they can figure it out. I have a copy of what I sent. I also sent the petitions to all three agencies:

    1. Fire Prevention Petitions, P.O. Box 2254, Suisun City, CA 94585
    2. Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, P.O. Box 944246, Sacramento, CA 94244
    3. Board of Equalization, P.O. Box 942879, Sacramento, CA 94279

Hey neighbors! Here are some pictures Dana just sent me from the mountains above Anchorage.
In Case you hadn’t heard, in Anchorage itself they’ve had a drought just like we have and have NO SNOW! They had to bring snow in by truck just to have enough on Main Street to hold the ceremonial start of the Iditorad. The original event that the team was supposed to participate in, and annual cross country ski marathon that draws competitors from all over the world, actually had to be canceled for the first time this year.
So, the team packed up their stuff and drove a couple hours up into the mountains to find snow to fulfill their goal of putting some miles under their skis in Alaska.

Looking at the current bill, the period shown is 07/01/14 – 06/30/15.

This appears to be an error in the bill, dated March 5,2015.

Anyone else gotten their Fire Prevention Tax bill? We just got ours on Friday. It seems the Petitions on the Jarvis website are not up to date. They have fiscal year 2013-14, but not 2014-15. My bill says “For the Period 07/01/14 – 06/30/15.” ???

@mtndad: The pileated woodpecker occupies a large range and is quite adaptable. Its ability to survive in many wooded habitat types has allowed the species to survive human habitation of North America much better than the more specialized ivory-billed woodpecker. Pileated woodpeckers have a large population size and, despite being non-migratory, are protected under the U.S. Migratory Bird Act. Due to the considerable damage that pileated woodpeckers can do to trees, some people may consider them harmful if found on their property, but the large birds control many insect populations, especially tree beetles, that may otherwise experience outbreaks.

If you read all of it, then people can better understand they are helpful at at controlling tree beetles, which is usually a good thing.
