The Raspberry Pi 3 micro computer that I will be using for this project does not come with an operating system loaded like a “normal” computer.\u00a0 It looks for the operating system, or at least a link to it, on an SD Card.\u00a0 To create the SD Card I’m following the instructions doing so with a Mac from the Raspberrypi.org site found HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is a fairly time consuming process.<\/p>\n

There is an excellent article about setting up the Raspberry Pi 3 HERE<\/a>.\u00a0 It is a multi-part article only some of which I will be using.<\/p>\n

Today I did the following:<\/p>\n

  1. Created the operating system image and copied it to the SD Card<\/li>\n
  2. Got the Raspberry Pi up and running and updated all the software that came with the OS image. (see pictures below)<\/li>\n
  3. Installed MySQL database (now called MariaDB for some odd reason)<\/li>\n
  4. Established a static IP address for the computer so I know how to reach it easily.<\/li>\n
  5. Enabled VNC server so I can work through the desktop from anywhere.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
